Registration for particular course sections is sometimes "closed." This may be done when the section is physically full (there are no more seats in the room in which the course will meet), to balance the enrollment among sections of the same course or to allow time for students from particular majors who are required to take the course to enroll. You can request enrollment ("to be added to") in these section. That way in which this is done depends on the academic department offering the course. While the details vary, it generally involves completing and submitting a form that can be found on the MSOE Community. Here are some useful links related to this particular situation and registration in general:
- Closed EECS course sections (all EE, CE, SE, BE and some GE courses): http://www.msoe.edu/docs/DOC-1191.
- Other closed course sections: http://www.msoe.edu/docs/DOC-2456.
- General registration instructions: http://www.msoe.edu/docs/DOC-1962.
Students sometimes panic when they see all the sections of a course they need are closed. This is generally not appropriate. If you are on track, MSOE will find room for you in all your necessary courses and create a workable schedule for you. This is guaranteed (see MSOE MSOE Guarantee - About MSOE, About MSOE for its exact wording). Note however that you are not guaranteed particular sections, professors, or schedules. In fact, when you submit a request to be placed in a closed section MSOE reserves the right to completely revamp your schedule to fulfill your request.
Note: If any of the links above become broken, please e-mail me (Dr. Tritt) to let me know. You can also then do a Google search for “MSOE Request to Enter a Full Section of a Class” to see if you can find the new link.
