If you are interested in becoming a SWE officer, please join us in CC47 this Friday at noon to learn about all of the different positions! We will be discussing how the election process will work and what all of the open positions (President, Vice President, Outreach Chair, Webmaster, Fundraising Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Region H Conference Co-Chair) involve.

Coming to this meeting doesn't mean that you have to run for a position! Nominations will take place Friday March 18th-Friday April 1st. In addition to discussing the elections, we will be presenting our February SWEster of the Month and pulling winners for the Winter Quarter Raffle competition!

If you have any questions or if you can’t make the meeting but want more information on elections, please contact Rachael Digrazia (digraziar@.msoe.edu)

Throwback Thursday- Slide Rule

Our archives includes equipment and apparatuses that have been used in courses to help students learn.  One of our favorite items is a giant slide rule.  Slide rules were frequently used for science and engineering equations up until schools began using the scientific calculator around 1974.

Here's a picture from 1943 where students are using the slide rule to solve a problem.

Here's the same slide rule used by our library students employees today.

Happy St. Patrick's Week MSOE!

To celebrate this tradition we have posted a few items from the St. Patrick's Day Celebrations Collection (MSOE AC9) to share some of the week's history.

St. Patrick's Week Events

Here is a 1934 letter from the Saint Patrick's Day Committee of the School of Engineering Branch of the AIEE describing the planned celebration.

Proclamation Signing

One of the longest running traditions that takes place during St. Pat's Week is the Proclamation Signing.  Each year MSOE's President signs control of the School to the year's chosen St. Patrick (or King Patrick in some earlier years).
