Power outlets in the CC Common Area

I tried to submit a request for maintenance for some of the outlets in elevated area next to the help desk. There are a bunch of power outlets that need fixing. At the bottom of the maintenance request area it asks for a password. I put in the password I normally use but apparently not the correct one. Some of the ethernet jacks also need to be fixed or remounted to the wall.

2015_ASC_Champs.jpgFive teams of architectural engineering and construction management students from Milwaukee School of Engineering traveled to the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 3 Conference and Student Competitions in October. The competition hosted about 280 students majoring in architectural engineering, civil engineering, and construction management. A total of 14 companies sponsored the four day event. MSOE teams took first in the nation for the health care competition, second place in the regional commercial competition, and third place in the regional design build competition.

For each competition the teams receive a request for proposal (RFP) for a real project at 7 a.m. and have 16 hours to turn in their proposal at 11 p.m. The following morning they present their solution to a panel of judges, which usually includes individuals who were involved in the actual project.

National Champion: Health Care Team
The Health Care Team won the National Open Championship. This competition was sponsored by Turner and tested each team’s ability to estimate and plan the construction of a hospital and their ability to present that plan professionally and efficiently to a client. Congratulations to team members: Zach Dawiec, Trevor Koziczkowski, Michelle Vanbuskirk, Jill Vandeboom, Brent Wilcox, Alexander Vetroczky and their coach Jeong Woo.

Regional Second Place: Commercial Team
The Design/Build Team won the second place regional title with their RFP for a senior housing project which was sponsored by Walsh. Congratulations to Megan Harley, Andrew Jax, Michael Laskowski, Brian Mueller, Travis Smith, Brett Vollmer and their coach Jeong Woo.

Regional Third Place: Design/Build Team
The Design/Build Team won the third place regional title with their RFP for a convention center. McCarthy sponsored the competition. Congratulations to Gustavo Cantoral, Jessica Johnson, Luke Muller, Marina Sharp, James Simonson, Evan Wilson and their coach DeAnna Leitzke.

National Competition: Electrical Team
The Electrical Team submitted a proposal for the construction plan for an Intelligent Transportation System for Illinois Route 390 in northeastern Illinois. The competition was sponsored by Aldridge Electric. Team members included: Rinkinson Gohel, Katie Maki, Casey Moneer, Marcos Trejo Perez, Brittany Vitkovich, Scott Zietlow and their coach Christine Brotz.

National Competition: Concrete Solutions
The team submitted a proposal for concrete solutions for a project with unforeseen conditions and poor terrain in New York. The competition was sponsored by Lithko. Team members included: Gage Christianson, Joey Fassbender, Cody Ganchar, Mitch Hickmann, Edward Hinsa, Mike Shea and their coach Jeong Woo.

Since entering the competition in 1999, MSOE has had 24 top three places in national student competitions and 13 national championship teams. No other university in the country has experienced the consistent level of success demonstrated by MSOE.

As you can see, a master’s degree is a next step to a better salary and those who earn a master’s degree are less likely to be unemployed. Engaging with MSOE's instructors also begins your journey toward greater self-esteem and the realization of your personal and professional potential. Options will open up for you when you learn at a leading STEM university. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Professions rich in the application of these qualities will advance your career because you'll gain marketable knowledge and skills.

  • Apply your knowledge and skills right away - As a STEM-oriented university, MSOE offers practical, applications-based graduate programs that get you working at higher levels right away.

We communicate all day long. But do we know how to communicate for the results we want? Very few things in life are more important than effective communication skills. Especially in the interview process.

Some key takeaways form this webinar:

* Why effective communication is the most important factor in job-seeking and overall success
* Successful communication including non-verbal and body-language
* Using the CHART method through the job-seeking process to greatly increase your likelihood of success.

Why should you know the CHART Process?
* Companies looking to hire and hiring managers are first and foremost looking to build successful professional relationships.
* Without trust, there is no relationship AND without effective communications, there is no trust.
* By following the CHART process, job seekers will position themselves for greater success.

Walter Schroeder Library Presents:

Finders Keepers

By Stephen King

For the next weekly book raffle!

(ONE copy will be raffled off.)

If you liked Stephen King’s “Misery” and enjoyed his triad of heroes from “Mr. Mercedes”, you won’t want to miss this story. Once again an author has captured the rapt attention of an unhinged person, but this time with fatal consequences. His legacy is a bunch of cash and a book that has not yet been published. The killer wants to get his hands on it, but first he’ll have to bide (and do) his time before he’s freed to do so. Ere that comes to pass, another person trips across the manuscript and he will need the help of Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson if he is to live to share the tale.

To sign up head on over to the Walter Schroeder Library Circulation Desk to fill out an entry slip:

  • You must be a current MSOE student, faculty, or staff member
  • You can enter once per book
  • The drawing will be held on Friday, October 30th @ 12:30pm
