Student life and the Humanities, Social Science, and Communication Department (HSC)  present ‘Engineering Solutions in A Violent World’ a program that fosters student and community discussions on violence and its relationship to technology, politics, and survival by presenting global, national, and local perspectives.

The ‘A Violent World’ forum enables the community to discuss one of the most critical issues we face in our society - violence and its effect on culture.

Press and Poetry and the Grohmann

IS POETRY A CURRENT EVENT? On Monday, Oct. 17 a small press and poetry presentation featuring Wisconsin poets and editors will be held in the Grohmann Museum Auditorium from noon to 1:15 p.m. Admission is free and all from the MSOE community are invited to come and find out how and why poems can be not only events in themselves but also sources of news about what goes on around us, whether the events are big or small, near or far, recent or enduring. Free broadsides featuring the poets' work will be given on a first-come basis to all who attend. Please join us and hear what's new!

Open Mic Night

This event is intended to relieve stress as well as help students prepare for exams. Students will be able to study while listening to performances provided by other students. These may include some of the following: performing magic, singing, reciting poetry, etc. It is open for students to show off their talents in a creative format. Tutors will also be available to support those who need help while studying. Food and refreshment will also be provided.

Phi Delta Chi: Pink Party

This event is an annual event hosted by Phi Delta Chi sorority. It exists to raise money for breast cancer awareness and all funds raised are donated. There are many events that occur within the context of Pink Party. These include a silent auction, the presence of vendors and speakers who present on their experiences and/or knowledge on breast cancer. The event is also intended to be educational.

IEEEXtreme 24-Hour Programming Competition

IEEEXtreme is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members—advised and proctored by an IEEE member, and often supported by an IEEE Student Branch—compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems.

Registration for IEEEXtreme 10.0 has been extended through 17 October 2016 00:00:00 UTC. The competition will begin on 21 October 2016 at 7 p.m. Central time and continue for 24 hours.

Teams can have up to 3 members.  All members need to be IEEE members. 

While professional members of IEEE, such as your faculty members, pay $201 per year, student memberships are discounted to $32. Welcome to this week's Money Monday. I'm still trying to hold onto summer but today I took a look around and saw the leaves changing color and realized it's almost October - yikes! No matter what your plans are this week, you should make some time to apply to one or more of these scholarships. To qualify for this scholarship, "At the time of acceptance of an ACI Foundation Scholarship (not necessarily at the time of application), the applicant shall have been accepted for graduate study at an accredited college or university in an engineering, architecture, or materials science program. The graduate study program shall be in the area of concrete with an emphasis on structural design, materials, construction, or any combination thereof. Applicants for the Kumar Mehta Scholarship must be pursuing graduate research in sustainable concrete."
